"Dare You to Move" is the title of our teaching series for the month of January. This series is focused on Nehemiah and taken from the Older Testament book that bares his name. The purpose for this series is to see how God would "Dare Nehemiah to Move" and how he is an example for our own personal "Dare You to Move" from God in 2010. For the final teaching we will look at the injustice that exists in our world. We will be challenged by how Nehemiah became passionate about what he saw and how he made concrete moves towards making a difference. In my own life there is a temptation to feel overwhelmed by injustice or to simply grow numb in the face of it. I can set aside much of what I see by saying, "how will that affect me?" and then close my eyes and move on with my own life. The problem is, God cares about the injustice in this world. His heart breaks at not only how we as human being treat each other but also at how we also passively sit by and do nothing to intervene. At times, when being passive is a temptation, I recall the following quote by Martin Niemöller who was a German pastor who spoke out publicly against the injustices of Hitler's Nazi regime. Pastor Niemöller said, "First they came for the communists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a communist; Then they came for the trade unionists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a trade unionist; Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—because I was not a Jew; Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak out." Click here to read more about pastor Niemöller. During this Sunday's teaching you will hear from two people who are passionate about responding to injustice. One person will present a global issue and the other a local one. Arrive at cfa this coming Sunday and take up the "Dare You to Move" and see how God calls you to Move in response to injustice! In the event that services are cancelled this weekend, cfa will provide a mini-devotional podcast that you can download so that you can "have church" with your family and/or neighborhood friends. Be on the lookout for that in the event of snow cancellations. Dare you to move,
